Although you may know why you have decided to come for counselling, it is often difficult to understand how the problems you are experiencing developed and how to deal with them effectively. Broadly speaking, counselling sets out to provide you with a framework in which you can feel confident of discussing difficulties or problems with an experienced, unbiased and non-judgemental person.

The counsellor’s role is to explore with you your feelings and way of thinking and to help you discover what may lie behind the issues that are troubling you. These may often be difficult for you to identify on your own. Once you have a better understanding of the events that may have shaped your life or the way you think about them, you will be in a much better position to start taking the necessary steps to address those aspects which are impeding your progress.
